Concrete deck repair & pool deck resurfacing

Cracked concrete, peeling coatings, worn pool surrounds and leaks through elevated decks call for different repair approaches. We check coating adhesion, moisture, cracks and spalls, movement joints, drains and low areas before deciding whether the surface needs localized repairs, removal of a failed coating or a broader waterproofing system.

Within the agreed scope, we mechanically prepare concrete, remove loose or incompatible material, treat approved cracks and damaged areas, and detail joints, edges, drains and penetrations before applying the specified system. An elevated deck over occupied space needs a continuous waterproof assembly; a ground-level pool surround may instead need resurfacing and a suitable pedestrian finish. We select texture with slip resistance, barefoot comfort, cleaning and drainage in mind. Structural concrete repairs or concealed conditions are identified separately when discovered.

How the work is approached

A complete scope—not just a surface coating

01

Concrete preparation

Clean and mechanically prepare the surface as required, then identify cracks, spalls and incompatible existing material.

02

Detail treatment

Address approved cracks, joints, drains, edges and penetrations before installing the field coating.

03

Protective finish

Apply the specified system and traffic surface with texture appropriate for the location and expected use.

Specified for the existing assembly

Waterproofing systems we install

We do not force one product onto every deck. The appropriate system depends on the substrate, existing assembly, exposure, expected traffic and project requirements.

01 · Life Specialty Coatings

MC & LD-2000 Systems

Concrete and pedestrian traffic systems considered after moisture, surface profile, cracking and existing coatings are evaluated.

02 · Tremco

Vulkem 350/351 Systems

Composite pedestrian waterproofing systems considered for compatible, properly prepared concrete recreation decks and other exterior walking surfaces.

03 · Westcoat

MACoat Systems

Flexible walking-deck options used for compatible concrete balconies, roof decks, walkways and pool decks with project-appropriate texture and finish.

04 · Multicoat

Multi-Deck for Concrete

An above-grade waterproofing option considered for compatible concrete deck substrates after preparation and detail requirements are established.

Final product selection and specifications are confirmed after the property and existing deck assembly are evaluated.

Common applications

Projects we can evaluate

The final recommendation depends on site conditions, access, the existing assembly and what is uncovered during approved preparation or demolition.

Questions customers ask before starting

Concrete & Pool Deck Waterproofing FAQs

These answers explain the decisions that usually affect scope, scheduling and system selection. The final recommendation is based on the conditions at your property.

Ask about your project
Will a waterproof coating permanently stop every concrete crack?

Cracks can be prepared and treated as part of an approved system, but concrete can continue to move. The crack pattern, joint design, moisture and structural conditions must be evaluated before deciding whether localized treatment or a broader repair is appropriate.

Does pool deck waterproofing include the inside of the swimming pool?

This service page addresses pool surrounds and other pedestrian deck surfaces, not automatically the interior pool vessel. Any water-feature or pool-interior work would need a separate evaluation and clearly defined scope.

Does the old coating have to be removed first?

It depends on adhesion, compatibility, thickness, moisture and the type of failure. Loose or incompatible material must be addressed, while a sound existing system may allow a different preparation approach after testing and manufacturer requirements are reviewed.

Can the finished pool deck be made slip resistant?

A compatible textured finish can improve traction for the intended pedestrian use. The correct texture also considers cleaning, barefoot comfort, drainage and the selected waterproofing or resurfacing system.
